City Proposing To Close Off Section Of 4th Street
Over the next couple of months Yakima residents may be see some dramatic changes to Yakima's downtown.
Yakima City Council os proposing to close a section of Fourth Street to traffic.
City planners say that portion of road, behind the Capitol Theatre, will be used as a venue to host events and concerts.
City Manager, Tony O'Rourke says creating the venue will rejuvenate and attract more people to the downtown Yakima area.
"We think that in due time, with more events, making it more publicly accessible and also publicly safer by police foot and bike patrols, we should see a renaissance in the downtown in the near future," said O'Rourke.
"Well I think it's a good thing. When they designate one spot and use one specific area, it's a lot easier for people to get around that aren't going to it," said Rann Killion.
If the plans are approved, that portion of Fourth Street will be closed off at the beginning of January.
