Hermiston Superintendent Returns from Service
The superintendent of the Hermiston School District returns from overseas after serving in the United States Army Reserves for the last 18 months.
Dr. Fred Maiocco was given ten days to prepare for his 18 month service term in April of 2011, and would later go onto serve in Kuwait for more than a year helping with the draw down of soldiers from Iraq.
He made his return to the district on Monday and has been in meetings and speaking with community leaders ever since.
"I look forward to learning and becoming current about all of the challenges facing the district," Dr. Maiocco said. "I'm in the process of meeting with community leaders and getting out into our schools to see all the great things that are happening."
Dr. Maiocco has three years left on his contract with the reserves, but was told he will not have to deploy for the next two years because of this last tour in Kuwait.
