City Council Conducting More Jail Studies
The Yakima City Council moves forward with plans to reduce costs at the city jail.
The city council will be hiring contractors to look at the medical program within the jail and decide how much of that should be cut over the next few months.
In addition, those contractors will be looking at the costs of expanding the city jail --- expanding the jail will allow the city to house it's own felons, who are currently being held in the county jail.
City council is also considering partnering with Yakima County to create a regional jail.
The city says it will spend the next few months exploring these options.
