The Pendleton Fire Department is investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed the wooden play structure, known as the “Castle” at the city’s Pioneer Park.

Pendleton Fire Marshal Tyler Nokes says firefighters responded to the park, located on the 400 block of NW Despain Avenue just after midnight Saturday.

The cause of the fire is unknown; however, Nokes says four kids were seen in the park about four hours prior to the fire.
