Franklin Co. restructures accounting departments
Franklin County is working to keep public money accounted for after nearly $3 million went went missing in an alleged embezzlement during the last 17 years.
This morning, county commissioners approved a resolution to restructure the accounting departments for the county Auditor's Office and the Public Works Department.
The departments are being consolidated into one.
Franklin County Auditor, Matt Beaton, says this change will help accountants be more efficient and accurate.
"And really, what this does, is it communicates to the citizens of Franklin County, the county's commitment to accounting for and tracking their dollars after the fraud that's occurred" said Beaton.
Former county administrator, Dennis Huston, is accused of stealing $1.7 million from the county.
His trial is scheduled to start next year.
