WSU Nursing Facility Upgrade

WSU Tri-Cities is getting a state of the art teaching facility for its college of nurses.

Today the university announced 2.9 million dollars in contributions from regional health care providers.

Kadlec Health System owns the 10-thousand square foot building which will become the nursing school. It's the old Rite Aid on Lee Boulevard in Richland.

Kadlec has offered to lease the building to the university for one dollar per year for 20 years.

The dean of the nursing program hopes it will help attract top notch faculty. "When they come and they see a facility that's new and has the commitment of the hospitals, commitment of academic and clinical partners, I think that it really poises us well to take the next step,"
said Patricia Butterfield.

Construction on the old retail space will start next spring, with nursing classes to begin in the building in about a year.

Large contributions came from Group Health, Kadlec Health System, Lourdes Health Network and Lampson International.
