Teacher Donates Giant Christmas Tree
Downtown Yakima is getting ready to light up a giant Christmas tree -- thanks to a generous donation from one resident.
The 40-foot evergreen at the Millennium Plaza was donated by Pam Wyatt, a Summitview Elementary Teacher.
It's being decorated in preparation for the Downtown Yakima Lighted Christmas Parade this weekend.
Wyatt says the tree has been growing in front of her home since she moved in over 25 years ago, and she's honored to share it with the community.
"My daughter and I were thinking back; When she was young, they used to play -- she and the neighborhood kids would play under the tree and have a fort," said Wyatt, "And this year, my granddaughter will get to go with us to see the tree lighting. So we're excited about that also."
The Lighted Christmas Parade will kick off at 5:30 on Sunday -- it starts at the corner of Yakima and Sixth Avenues.
