Man Found Guilty Of Attempted Indecent Liberties

29-year old Armando Cortez Lopez was convicted of one count of attempted indecent liberties with forcible compulsion.

Yakima County Prosecutors say the conviction arose from an incident, which took place in Sunnyside on March 4, 2012 at about 7:30 in the morning.

A witness observed Cortez Lopez approach and grab a 64-year old woman from behind.

The witness interrupted the assault, and followed Cortez Lopez to Pepe’s Bakery.

The witness contacted the Sunnyside Police Department who were unable to locate Cortez Lopez inside the bakery; however, police did locate the vehicle Cortez Lopez was driving behind the bakery, and a sweatshirt he was wearing during the assault inside the bakery.

Cortez Lopez turned himself in to the Sunnyside police a week after the incident.

Prosecutors are seeking a life sentence for Lopez.

Sentencing is scheduled for Thursday, January 3, 2013.
