Burn Ban Upgraded To Stage 2
The Stage 1 Burn Ban for Upper and Lower Yakima County has been upgraded to Stage 2.
The Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency issued the upgrade this afternoon in order to help avoid reaching very unhealthy levels.
The agency says a strong inversion layer is expected to last throughout today, however, conditions are expected to improve by Thursday.
The air quality will be re-evaluated Wednesday.
During a Stage 2 Burn Ban:
1) All outdoor burning , including Agricultural burning, is prohibited.
2) The use of any fireplace, wood stove or fireplace insert is prohibited unless it is the only adequate means of heating a home.
3) No excessive smoke is allowed from any solid fuel burning device beyond a 20-minute startup.
4) All violations of t he burn ban are subject to civil penalty.
