Thousands Lose Power

More than 7,000 customers in Toppenish and Zillah were without power this morning.

Pacific Power says the power failure happened around 8:30, due to a substation interruption in Toppenish.

The company says birds may have interfered with equipment at the substation.

Heritage University says it canceled classes today due to the power outage.

Crews were able to restore service to most customers by 3:00 this afternoon.

About 280 were still without power as of 6 p.m.
