Prosecutors Dismissing 14 Marijuana Cases
Yakima County Prosecutors decide to throw out over a dozen pending marijuana cases, after Washington voters legalize marijuana earlier this month.
The county plans to dismiss 14 cases in which the defendant is 21 years or older, and facing misdemeanor posession charges.
Cynthia Martinez says dropping the cases will save the county money in court costs.
"We want to be confident enough when we do a jury trial, that it's going to be worth the money that we're spending. And in light of the voters decisions, this may not -- at this point, this doesn't appear to be a place we should be putting our resources," said Martinez.
Martinez says the county is still reviewing about 70 other marijuana related cases, and will decide on those at a later date.
