McKenna concedes defeat to Inslee in governor's race
Republican Rob McKenna concedes defeat to democrat Jay Inslee in the Washington governor's race today.
McKenna's campaign manager Randy Pepple, told reporters tonight that McKenna called Inslee to congratulate him this evening just before 6 PM.
Inslee has held a 51% advantage in the race as ballots were counted this week, and today's count made the outcome clear.
"Once those started coming in in the late morning, early afternoon, all the way till about 5 o' clock, it just became apparent that there wasn't enough of a buildup, even though he was cutting into the lead, and got it down to under 42,000. We just realized that there wasn't going to be enough of an offset" said Pepple.
The decision brings to end one of the most watched, most expensive governor's races in the country.
The two campaigns raised and spent some $40 million in the race.
Both candidates vowed to not raise taxes.
