Motorcyclist Dies in Head-On Crash With Semi
Fatal crash on Summitview Avenue
The Washington State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash near Yakima involving a motorcycle and a semi-truck.
The accident happened shortly after eleven this morning on Summitview Avenue, eight miles west of Yakima. Troopers say 53 year old Daniel Gaub of Yakima was headed east on his motorcycle, when he crossed the center line and hit a semi head-on.
The semi lost its trailer, and Gaub died at the scene. Authorities are investigating why the motorcyclist drifted in front of the truck.
"There's been a couple of speculations as to why the operator would allow his bike or motorcycle, as you can tell there's a bit of a wind blowing right now, we're looking into that right now," says Lt. Terry Liebrecht.
The driver of the semi was not hurt in the accident. Traffic was rerouted around the scene for several hours while troopers investigated the accident.
