Cinco de Mayo in Sunnyside

Cinco de Mayo festivities are underway in the city of Sunnyside.

Two blocks of Sixth Street in Downtown Sunnyside are closed off. Dozens of food, clothing, and arts and crafts vendors have set up shop there. Live entertainment is also part of the festivities in Sunnyside.

The celebration runs through Sunday and starts at 10 a.m. each day. One resident says Cinco de Mayo is a chance to celebrate Mexican culture,  and promote harmony in the community.

"Just so we can see our similarities and also if there's differences, why they can understand our differences and not just go by what we see on the outside," says Joel Almaguer.

Two days of Cinco de Mayo festivities will kick off tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. in downtown Yakima, with an opening ceremony featuring a color guard and Latino veterans. The Charro Parade through downtown starts at one in the afternoon on Sunday.
