Hermiston Kidnapper in Umatilla County Jail
The Hermiston man accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and taking her hostage in a Crescent Lake, OR cabin is in the Umatilla County Jail awaiting charges.
Alberto Martinez, 28, kidnapped his ex-girlfriend, Meoldy Mickel, 26, from her work at the Rite Aid in Hermiston on Thursday.
A nationwide manhunt went into effect searching for the pair for nearly a week before authorities found Martinez's car outside of a cabin owned by Mickel's family.
After hours of negotiating, Martinez came out of the cabin using Mickel as a human shield, and had a knife close to her body.
Authorities shot Martinez in the head -- who suffered non-life threatening injuries -- and Mickel was able to get away safe.
Mickel is now with family in Eugene, while Martinez was transferred to Umatilla County earlier Thursday.
The Umatilla County Prosecutor is handling the charges, and hopes to file those charges by Friday.
