Unemployment Up Locally in May

Unemployment was up throughout our local counties in May.

Benton: 8.7% (+.4%)
Franklin: 9.8% (+.4%)
Kittitas: 8.8% (+.5%)
Walla Walla: 7.4% (+.3%)
Yakima: 10.8% (+.2%)

The rate rose by about a half a point through the majority of the area. Yakima County had the lowest increase, but still has the highest average rate of 10.8%.
         
Walla Walla remains the county with the lowest unemployment rate, at 7.4%.
