Council Approves New Police Contract

Second times the charm for the police department as the Yakima City Council approves a new proposal.

In a 5 to 2 vote,  the council voted to approve a new contract with the Yakima Police Patrolmen's Association.

The new proposal will cost the city about 600 thousand dollars more over 2 years, nearly 200 thousand dollars less than the previous contract shot down earlier this year.

A main component of the previous proposal was a physical fitness incentive which allowed for workers to receive a pay increase based on their performance.

But the president of the union says that incentive needed to be cut out.
