Community members and staff members from Kennewick General Hospital break ground on a brand new hospital today.

Crews are building the new Southridge Facility on the corner of Hildebrand Road and Plaza Way.

The new building will be 170,000 square feet, three stories tall and it will have 74 beds.

It will include 27 rooms for emergencies and 14 rooms for intensive care.

The new facility is expected to open in the summer of 2014, and it will create 100 new, permanent healthcare jobs.

The project is expected to cost $112 million.
