More Schools Add Dress Codes
Two more Yakima Valley school districts are adopting a dress code after controversy in Mabton this month over a similiar uniform.
Starting this fall, Granger High School students are required to wear jeans or khakis and polos.
Certain colors are prohibited, as are rosaries and headwear of any kind.
School officials say the new policy is designed to eliminate gang clothing, and promote a healthy educational atmosphere.
One Granger High student says he doesn't mind the change.
"It's gonna make us look like a school. They're gonna know who we are, they're gonna be like, 'oh that's granger high school kids right there," says freshman Ignacio Sanchez.
West Valley High School will also be tightening its dress code, banning students from wearing revealing or gang-related clothing.
