3-year-old runs into street and is struck, killed by SUV in Mabton
A 3-year-old is dead after running into the street and being struck by a SUV Saturday night in Mabton.
Washington State troopers say Julian Vargas-Lua was struck around 7:30 p.m. near 4th Avenue and Washington Street and was transported to Sunnyside Community Hospital, where later died.
The driver of the SUV, 19-year-old Juan Aguilar-Quentero, also of Mabton, was not injured.
Troopers say drugs or alcohol were not a factor, however, they believe inattention to be the cause of the accident.
The accident is under investigation.
