Fire at GTO Car Wash
Firefighters responded to an early evening fire at a car wash in Yakima today.
Crews responded to multiple calls around 6:40 pm about a fire at the GTO Car Wash on Yakima Avenue.
Firefighters say black smoke was coming from the roll up doors of the building.
The smoke originated from an engine compartment fire inside of an F-550 vehicle.
Officials say crews immediately extinguished the fire and opened up vents in the roof to allow venting.
"The fire was pretty much confined to the engine compartment and did not extend to the rest of the structure. However, we did have smoke and heat damage throughout the building," says Battalion Chief Mitch Cole.
Officials say no one was inside the building at the time of the fire, and investigation is currently underway.
