Members of the Washington State University Tri-Cities community broke ground on a monument Tuesday that will honor veterans.

Scott Dawson, former president of the WSU Tri-Cities Veterans Club Association and Support, said his group has been raising money for quite some time, and it is a relief to finally see the project move forward.

"Now standing here knowing that this is happening, there is no ifs, ands or buts, it's gonna happen." Dawson said. "It's surreal, it's amazing, it's just a great feeling, sometimes it actually doesn't even feel real."

Dawson said the nine foot tall monument is going to cost nearly $100,000 to build, and his club was able to raise most of the money independent of the school.

The monument will consist of ten, bronze pages that have stories and quotes written about veterans that have died for our country.

It is scheduled to be completed by the end of September.
