Wilcox Furniture Closes Doors for the Last Time Today

After 61 years, Wilcox Furniture will be closing its doors for the last time Monday evening.

All 5 Wilcox Furniture stores, located in Hermiston, Pendleton, and at Stateline in Milton-Freewater, liquidated their inventory.

Four of the locations have been staggering its closures over the last several weeks, and tonight will be the Hermiston location's final day.

Wilcox Furniture has expanded from their original Hermiston store to several other Umatilla County locations.  A Clearance Store was added in Hermiston in the 1970's and in 1985 Wilcox opened a store in Pendleton.  The first Wilcox Furniture store in Milton-Freewater opened at Stateline in 1989 and was followed by a second in 1996.  Wilcox Furniture currently employs a staff of 70 in 5 Umatilla County locations. John Wilcox remarked, "We have enjoyed a tremendous relationship with the people of Eastern Oregon and Southeast Washington.  The decision to close our stores has been a very difficult one."

The Wilcox Furniture stores won't remain vacant for long.  According to John Wilcox, a leading Pacific Northwest furniture retailer will take over all 5 Wilcox store locations soon after Wilcox Furniture finishes a Going Out of Business Sale.  Wilcox said that he is pleased that a well-known reputable furniture company will be replacing Wilcox Furniture, so that area residents will continue to have the opportunity to shop locally for their home furnishing needs.

While expressing a sense of sadness that Wilcox Furniture will soon close its doors forever, all of "The Wilcox Boys" look forward to the next chapter of their lives as they move on to other pursuits.  Bruce Wilcox said, "We'll miss the community involvement.  But, after spending over 30 years in the furniture business, it is time to do something different."

John Wilcox, who has been the President of Wilcox Furniture for almost 40 years, stated, "We are grateful for having the opportunity to serve the people of Eastern Oregon and Southeast Washington for all of these many years.  I want to thank all of our customers and friends for their loyalty and support. We will miss them."
