The Washington State Patrol will be monitoring the amount of rest commercial truck drivers are getting on the roads this week.

Troopers have teamed up with authorities in Oregon and California to make sure the roads are safe from truck drivers that are too tired behind the wheel.

Authorities will check drivers' logs of service and look for drivers who are trying to avoid the inspection sites.

Alton Hackett, commercial truck driver, said drivers need to be smart out there and that he is in favor of the emphasis.

"Outstanding, good idea," Hackett said. "I'm on the road, too and I don't want drivers out there fatigued when I am driving on the same roads as they are, it's not safe, not safe at all."

The emphasis runs until July 12th.
