Seattle hiker dies in Kittitas County

A Seattle man was hiking with three friends in the area of Longs Pass north of Cle Elum when he suffered a medical emergency Sunday afternoon and collapsed.

56-year-old David Brumer died at the scene despite the fact that his friends were medical professionals and provided immediate medical aid.

The area is about 20 miles north of Cle Elum, and three miles in from the Esmeralda Basin Trail head.  A seven person back country ground team from Kittitas County Search and Rescue hiked into the scene and remained with him over night.  Due to the remoteness of the area, plans are to pick up the victim via helicopter this morning.  The cause of death is still under investigation.
