Washington attorney general Rob McKenna visits Yakima today to give a warning to current and future homeowners.

McKenna spoke to residents at Apprisen Credit Counseling Services regarding mortgage-related scams.

McKenna says consumers should pay close attention to letters they receive from their lenders, and remind other borrowers to keep an eye out as well.

"Our number one piece of advice for homeowners who are stuggling is to not fall for one of the scams where they are contacted by someone who claims they are going to get them lower interest rates or a new mortgage, or what have you, and then demands to be paid upfront for that assistance," says McKenna.

Mckenna says services such as these are free of charge, and that if you have to pay, it's most likely a scam.
