Suspects Arrested After Fleeing in River

Two people have been arrested after fleeing from police by jumping in the Yakima River in Toppenish.

Toppenish Police responded to reports of a suspect drawing a gun on several people having a BBQ on Washington Avenue around 8:30 P.M.

Two suspects fled in their car, a 35-year-old man from Buena and his 24-year-old woman passenger, and stopped on the Yakima bridge on North Meyers Road.

When police chased after them, the suspects jumped into the river and started swimming downstream.

Officers caught the two suspects about a half a mile downstream.

They will both face multiple charges.
