Demo Begins At Wapato High School
Crews begin demolishing Wapato High School today to make way for a brand new building.
Construction crews tore down walls, roofs, and cleared out asbestos from the school which was built in the 1950s.
The new high school will cost about about 43 million dollars.
School officials say the new school will be safer for students.
"The safety improved greatly- in the way that the new school will be designed there will only be four or five entrances to the building where now your walking outside to get to different sections," says Dan Murray Assistant Superintendent.
Demolition is set to be finished by August- the gym and a portion of the library are the only areas of the school not being demolished and will just be remodeled.
Just a few months ago the school finished its 3.7 million dollar science wing which is being preserved.
