Mesa Coal Train Accident

Mesa Coal Train Accident

Railroad workers continue to clean up coal that spilled when 31 cars of a 125-car coal train derailed in Mesa, about 20 miles north of the Tri-Cities.

No one was injured and no buildings were damaged in the derailment, according to Burlington Northern Santa Fe.

Crews reopened a portion of track today around 1 PM allowing one train to pass through.

The main rail line was expected to open at 6 PM.

It will take crews about 3 weeks to remove the damaged rail cars and clean up the spilled coal.
