Major Train Derailment in Mesa
A Burlington Northern Santa Fe train has derailed near Mesa in Franklin County, spilling 25 to 30 cars full of coal.
The accident took place at about 6:45 Monday night, and no one was injured.
About 60 workers were on the scene cleaning up and clearing the tracks.
Crews said that although rail traffic will be disrupted, the public is not in danger.
BNSF tells us the train was headed to Canada, and that each car contained over 100 tons of coal.
Neighbors in the area said the accident sounded like a tornado and felt like an earthquake.
A cause for the derailment has not been determined, and it is unknown when the scene will be cleared by.
