Fewer Accidents on I-82 Near Yakima Today
State Patrol says troopers are responding to fewer accidents on Interstate 82 in the Yakima area today compared to yesterday.
Snow and ice on I-82 resulted in 127 crashes between Ellensburg and Prosser yesterday, with two injury accidents near Sunnyside.
The number of collisions along that same stretch of I-82 are down to 18 today. Drivers we spoke with say they are being extra careful.
"It's a little nasty out there, they've got the outside lane fairly good, I did 40-45 all the way up here," says driver Doug Monoian.
"We're in 4-wheel drive, and taking it cautiously, there's actually the people are driving with some good common sense most of the time today," says driver Victor Stein.
Police in the cities of Yakima, Union Gap, and Selah say they've responded to at least eleven accidents collectively since yesterday.
