2 Escapees captured after vehicle chase by Kittitas Co. Sheriff's Deputies

Two escapees with extensive criminal histories are back behind bars in Kittitas County.

18-year-old Jacob Miland of Kittitas County and 18-year-old Tiofilo Taufausee of Olympia broke out a window and escaped from the Park Creek Detention facility around midnight Friday.

About a half hour following the report, a Kittitas County Sheriff's Deputy spotted a flatbed truck heading west on the Vantage Highway with the headlights off.

A pursuit began westbound on the Vantage Highway near Estate Lane, into the city of Ellensburg on University Way where the suspect vehicle almost struck another patrol unit head-on.  The pursuit continued out to the west interchange where the suspect vehicle's tires finally went flat from a curb it had struck in town.  The suspect vehicle pulled off the side of the road on the I-90 eastbound on-ramp, stopped, and the two male suspects fled on foot.

A perimeter was set up and the Ellensburg Police Department's K-9 Unit responded.  The two suspects were taken into custody without incident after the dog located them hiding in the brush.

Deputies believe Miland and Taufausee broke out of the detention center, walked to a farm home on the Vantage Highway near Parke Creek Road, and stole the vehicle.

The two were booked in the sheriff's jail and will face multiple charges, include escape, malicious mischief, attempted vehicular assault, felony eluding and theft of a motor vehicle.
