Worker Seriously Injured in Union Gap Electrical Fire
A worker suffers serious burns in an electrical fire at a Union Gap business this morning.
The fire happened at the new Rankin Equipment company on the 32-hundred block of Bay Street around 9:30. Firefighters arrived to find smoke inside the building.
The fire department says a contractor was working on an electrical system when the fire broke out, burning him in the face and chest.
"The employees were working over in that area, all of a sudden there was a fire, they removed him to a place of safety, and got out of the building," says Union Gap Fire Chief Chris Jensen.
The victim is described as a man between 20 and 25 years old, he suffered second and possibly third degree burns. He'll be taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
