Finley Student With Leukemia Looking For Match

Family members of a Finley High School senior diagnosed with leukemia are asking the community to help her find a bone marrow transplant match.

Abi Hamlin, 17, was diagnosed with leukemia in March of last year, she went into remission a few months ago but doctors recently found more leukemia cells.

Hamlin has since been sent back to Children's Hospital in Seattle to undergo chemotherapy.

Jared Johnson, Hamlin's cousin, has setup a Facebook page that directs people to the "Be The Match Registry" sponsored by the National Morrow Donor Program.

People between the ages of 18 and 60 can sign up to receive a DNA testing kit that allows potential donors to store their DNA information into a database.

If Hamlin goes back into remission, doctors will have 30 days to perform the bone marrow transplant, but a perfect match must be found first.

"Ever since she got diagnosed it's really been a bad time for our whole family," Johnson said. "Now that I can actually do something about it, I feel a lot better about myself."
