Bigger Bus Now Serving More Commuters Between Yakima and Ellensburg
Yakima Transit is now using a bigger bus to meet increased passenger demand for a commuter service between Yakima and Ellensburg.
The larger 47-seat bus is used for the first and last trips of the day, when ridership is at its peak. Around 200 people commute between the two cities every day, that's up from around 30 when the service began last november.
Passengers like the larger vehicles, and the transit manager is pleased the service is a success.
"We knew that there was a need but the need is tremendous, and I'm sure that there's needs for even going on trips to the Lower Valley too," says Transit Manager Ken Mehin.
"I've had the experience of riding on the bigger busses and they're just a lot more comfortable," says commuter Olivia Barrera.
Yakima Transit expects to put a second larger bus in service in the next few weeks.
