Komen Foundation Stops Funding to Planned Parenthood

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation announced Tuesday that it will stop funding to Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood uses the money to fund breast cancer screenings for women.

The Komen Foundation announced it will stop the funding because Planned Parenthood is currently being investigated for using public money to fund abortions.

Planned Parenthood released a statement today that said the organization is "saddened and alarmed" by the announcement, and believes the decision may been made because of "political pressure" from groups that are anti-abortion.

Mark Lee, Planned Parenthood Fundraiser, said there have been rumors of this decision recently, and the organization is already taking measures to ensure women will still be covered.

"We've started an emergency fund to make sure that it won't impact us [local Planned Parenthood branches]," Lee said. "It'll only just affect how we raise the money and recognize that we're not gonna allow this to affect us."
