Teen struck trying to free vehicle near Benton City
A Yakima teenager was hit by a car near Benton City today as he tried to free a car that had apparently slid off Interstate 82.
18-year-old Nathaniel Banks was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.
He had been riding in a vehicle driven by 17-year-old Ana Ventura of Yakima, when the car slid off the interstate into the median shortly after 4 p.m. west of Benton City.
Banks and Ventura’s vehicle were hit by a SUV driven by 45-year-old Rosa Mendoza of Pasco, who lost control of her car.
Troopers say the cause of the accident was due to traveling too fast for conditions.
