Hanford Environmental Study
The Department of Energy releases a 10 year, 10-thousand page environmental impact study on the future of the Hanford cleanup. It makes recommendations for three specific areas.
It suggests that 99% of the tank waste be removed from the site and the tanks be filled and capped.
The DOE wants the Fast Flux nuclear test reactor be entombed and for all low level waste to be put into one facility on the site and that site landfilled.
The DOE is also recommends continuing a ban on outside waste being brough to the Hanford site.
