After years of planning and nearly six months of construction, Columbia Basin College opens the largest planetarium in Washington state.

Educators cut the ribbon on the $1.3 million facility this morning.

The planetarium can seat up to 100 people, and has a dome 36 feet in diameter.

Educators plan to use the planetarium as an educational tool for students across our region.

The planetarium's director says he can teach anything in the brand new facility.

"It can transport you literally from the surface of the Earth to anywhere you wanna go. It's just as easy to go to the surface of the Moon and look back at the Earth or to a moon of Jupiter as it is to look up into the sky from Earth" said Mike Durst, planetarium director.

The planetarium will be open to the public on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
