Deputy Receives Medal Of Valor
A Yakima County Sheriff's Deputy receives a Medal of Valor award for his actions in a standoff in selah that resulted in a man's death last year.
Deputy Jason Conger was awarded the medal yesterday for pulling a woman to safety as her son, 18 year old Ross Nager, fired a shotgun at police.
Nager was shot and killed as he tried to flee the scene in an SUV.
Conger says he is extremely honored to receive the award, but understands the pain the family is still going through.
"None of us ever wanna see a loss of life -- our job is the exact opposite of that, we wanna preserve life, and help people and protect people," said Conger.
Conger is a native of selah and joined the yakima sheriff's department in 2004.
