East Valley Student Puts On Charity Softball Tournament
An East Valley High School student coordinates a softball tournament a Kiwanis Park in Yakima to benefit a family member who is battling cancer.
Senior Skylar Weaver put together a 9-team softball tournament Saturday for his senior project.
The money made from the tournament would go towards his great aunt, Sharon Garrett, who spent the past four years battling lymphoma.
About 200 people from weavers high school and around the community were at the tournament.
Garrett, whose cancer is currently in remission, says she did not expect to see so many supporters.
"I'm really grateful that so many people would turn out and do this as part of his plan and for his senior project. It's amazing to me," said Garrett.
"With this, i hope that it shows people that cancer is a problem and that everybody should be doing their part to take care of it," said Weaver.
Weaver says he has managed to raise $1,000 so far.
