Rep. Doc Hastings (R) 4th District

Congressman Doc Hastings addressed the Tri Cities Chamber luncheon in pasco this afternoon.

Where we asked him about the recent controversy over Missouri Senate Candidate Congressman
Todd Akin.

Akin is under fire after he appeared on a show voicing his opposition on abortion.

In instances of what he called "legitimate rape," Akin claims women's bodies somehow blocked an unwanted pregnancy.

Since then both Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have called on akin to leave the race-but Hastings says thats a decision Akin will have to make regardless of the pressure.
"Theres a lot of things that happen during election years and you just have to deal with them on a case by case basis- so thats his decision and he'll have to make it," says Hastings.

Todd Akin did issue a formal apology saying, "I made a mistake. I used the wrong words in the wrong way."

He has not left the race.
