Man injured in off-roading accident in Yakima Co.
A man from Vashon has been hospitalized after his Land Rover overturned while attempting to go up a steep portion of Kanner Flat Trail yesterday in Yakima County.
66-year old Allen Desteiguer was off-roading with other members of an off-road club when the victim's vehicle began to roll backwards while attempting to go up a 70% grade.
Desteiguer's Land Rover rolled over and came to a rest on its top, trapping him under the vehicle around 4:45 p.m.
He was unconscious and airlifted to Yakima Regional Hospital.
Desteiguer sustained several fractured ribs and injuries to his lower back. His injuries are not considered life threatening.
An investigation reveal that the gear in the rear differential of Desteiguer's Land Rover broke, causing the vehicle to roll backward.
