Lacey man drowns in Yakima River in Kittitas Co.

A Lacey man drown yesterday after falling out of his raft and being swept under overhanging brush on the bank of the Yakima River.

The Kittitas County Sheriff's Office says 54-year old Kirby Tingle was found by a group of rafters around 2 p.m. yesterday.

An investigation revealed Tingle was floating the river in a small raft with his 17-year old grandson on an inner tube.  Tingle lost consciousness as he was pulled to shore by his grandson and other rafters.

CPR was performed by sheriff's deputies and medics, but Mr. Tingle could not be revived.

Mr. Tingle was reportedly wearing a life preserver at the time of the accident, though it is not known whether it was correctly secured.
