A Yakima native is awarded a medal of valor by the US Army this weekend.

Army Special Forces Lieutenant Colonel Michael Sullivan has been awarded the Bronze Star for Valor.

Sullivan is recognized for his actions during an operation in Afghanistan in 2009.

Sullivan led 150 US and Afghan soldiers in seizing a key location, which they held during four days of counterattacks.

He is a graduate of Davis High School, and the son of former Yakima County Prosecuter, Jeff Sullivan.

He is based at Fort Bragg North Carolina
