A Selah High School teacher is recognized with a state wide award.

Michelle McCartney received the Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher of the Year Award this week.

McCartney teaches family health, fashion merchandising and also serves as the school's activities director.

She says she hopes the honor inspires other teaches to become involved with their students outside of the classroom.

"It's really a great opportunity for people to --- especially educators, to stretch themselves professionally beyond the classroom with student leadership and different activities, and really-really see how they can change lives with kids they work with," said McCartney

Mccartney says she will be spending the next few days preparing for the first day of class, which starts August 27th.
