A Governor from New Mexico visits Yakima to campaign for a Washington state Governor candidate.

New Mexico Governor Susan Martinez and Attorney General Rob McKenna met with the Yakima Fire Department at the Yakima Air Terminal this morning.

Martinez is in Yakima to campaign and raise money for mckenna, who is running for governor in november.

McKenna, a frequent visitor to Yakima, says Martinez, as a latina, may be able to better connect with the hispanic population in the area.

"Having been here more often than any state elected official anyone can remember, to me, it is just completely natural that this would be our first stop," says McKenna.

"With a large hispanic population here, I want them to get involved, and make sure they understand what's important to their families. And they know it's education for their children, it's getting a job and making sure that they can provide for those families," says Martinez.

Mckenna and Martinez left to campaign in Seattle following today's meeting.
