Fire damages Yakima apartment complex

An electrical short is likely the cause of a fire that damaged a Yakima apartment complex Friday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the 1400 block of Folsom around 4:30 p.m.

It was reported that all occupants were out of the structure, however, smoke and flames were seen coming from the building.

The occupants who were home at the time of the fire stated that they were unaware of the fire until someone knocked on their door and told them their house was on fire.  All evacuated safely.

More that twenty residents of the apartment building were evacuated from the building for their safety.

All residents, except those that lived in the apartment affected by the fire, were able to return to their homes.  There were no injuries but the apartment was condemned due to extensive damage. Some members of the family were being assisted by the American Red Cross and some were being assisted by other family members.

Damage is estimated at $30,000.
