Local Church Will Give Away Backpacks
5,000 Backpacks To Be Donated
A church in Yakima is preparing to give away 5,000 backpacks to students in need tomorrow.
The morningstar church in yakima will be hosting the event in its parking lot and Miller Park -- located across from one another on North 4th Street.
Students kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible can pick up backpacks from 9 a-m to 1 p.M. Tomorrow.
One church member says the event is only meant to help students.
"It's not even about us, it's about people. And that's our heart in the whole thing. We're not trying to push our church agenda. We just want to come together and love on our city, and bless as many people as possible," says Kierstin Platt.
Church members say they only gave away 1500 backpacks last year, and had to turn away hundreds of students as a result.
