On 04-28-12 at approximately 1720 hrs, Officer Elaine Gonzalez spotted a vehicle that matched the description of one driven by a suspect she wanted to question for theft. During the stop, other officers arrived to assist. As police approached the vehicle, the driver sped away, leading police on a chase through the southern city limits along Ahtanum Road. Eventually, the driver stopped his vehicle in a back yard in the 2500 block of South 52nd Avenue where the driver and four passengers fled. Several police and citizens in the neighborhood managed to corral four of the five who fled. The fifth suspect, who happened to be the driver, was captured in a nearby trailer park where he ran uninvited into the residence to hide from police. The suspect has allegedly been involved in thefts of property from several area churches. He now faces several additional felony and misdemeanor charges. He awaits these charges in the Yakima County Jail. The additional passengers also face an array of accomplice to theft charges and outstanding warrants.
